TOEFL speaking
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
For the third meeting, it will be held on July 8th (Sun.) at the same time and venue - 鬲離咖啡 9:30 AM.
I wish you learn and practice a lot with great joy today.
For the third meeting, we will go into the lecture module.
And I will record your project presentation when you give a short lecture by my digital camera.
Then I will upload to Youtube with non-public privacy setting, which means only the one having the links can watch the videos.
The following list is my recall of who talks which topic:
Pang :: Brief introduction of satellites
Zoe :: Brief introduction of the concept of 5Cs standard
Susan :: How to make Marco no.
The rest of people who hasn't decided yet should also submit your topics to me via email.
According to how much time we have, we may have 2 or 3 lectures next time.
The following are the guidelines for preparing the lectures.
1. prepare your handout
Please image you're a TA or professor and you are giving a short lectures to your students.
Your hangout can help your students understand the content much better.
2. writing on the white board instead of just showing power point
According to my personal experiences, using the power point ONLY in the lecture will let students have little time to write down the notes, and hence they can not grasp the ideas you want to address.
You can draw some pictures in your hangout as well.
3. organizing your content
No matter it is a 10-mins or 1 hour talk, the organization of a speech is absolutely indispensable.
General structures are
1) introduction part :: which serves as drawing your audience's attention and giving an outline of your talk.
2) main body :: the main content
3) summary or conclusion
4. prepare the questions that you will be asked
In some formal situation, like in a conference, the presenter will prepare backup slides for showing the information that doesn't include in the speech, and these slides are just for answering the questions.
Here, you don't need to in such formal way, what you can do is that to image if you were a novice to this topic, what would you ask.
5. practice makes perfect
Next time we still have some games to play.
You are always welcome to give me any suggestion and feedback.
Thank you very much.
xination
ps. several members are very interested in their first homework, and I wish I can figure out a good way of how to give my feedback and suggestions to you.

ex. 10:00~12:30 for GRE
13:00~15:30 for TOEFL speaking
請確認有想來的人寄email給我,as soon as possible.
TOEFL speaking or GRE, or both.
thank you very much~~~
for GRE 讀書會
我希望這邊是個很快樂的English speaking練習場所,and we only speak in English
or prepare a 10 min talk.
Anyway,
