  ps. flint是打火石(在p.205有談過這個字唷),用flint可以生出火花,早起的人沒有打火機,就可以用撞擊flint來生火的。skinflint是指一個人很不想花錢買個新的flint,而一直磨(skin)舊的flint石。所以而後就是指很吝嗇的人,連幾毛錢都不願多花。

  ps. 源自於指一種士兵,就是在主力部隊最前面,丟長茅弓箭的陣前士兵。

  比方說,有一則澳洲的新聞說,在社區慢跑的途中被袋鼠攻擊了,然後袋鼠很快的跑掉,記者就是用skirmish這個字的。
